THE DECAY OF THE CIRCUS. LONDON, March 26
“I have lived every minute of my life,” chuckles “Professor” Bure, the old circus clown with whom the Prince of Wales chatted when he visited his London tenants on the Duchy of Cornwall estate the other day. Mr. Bure laments the decay of the circus. “It was a fine healthy life, and there were the traditions, which are mostly lost now. Books of gags and business are no longer handed down from generation to generation of clowns. I destroyed mine the other day because I had no one to pass them on to. “Circuses have not gone out of fashion because, as some people say, children arc too old for them nowadays,” said Mr Bure. “Children are just as fond of them as ever, ;but they can see most of the familiar features at the music-halls. The good old circus has been willed by the music hall.”
