A firo broke out to-night- in a two storied brick building In Lower Taranaki Street used by T. A. Wells as a paint store. The building was completely gutted and the stock of paints wall papers, etc., which were valued at £IO,OOO totally destroyed. The total number of men evacuated from the United Kingdom to New Zealand since the armistice was signed is 24,538. COMMISSION’S REPORT. CHRISTCHURCH, April 25. Hon. Cl. W. Russell expects to receive an interim report of the Epidemic Commission to-day, but the contents will be private until seen by the Governor-General.
