COAL TROUBLE, SYDNEY, April 24. Although the miners are using influenza as an excuse to cease work, it is believed the action is due to state intervention in the coal crisis. Most of tlio miners in Maithrjid and Newcastle are idle. It is expected the southern miners will follow suit. MOTOR CYCLE RECORD. MELBOURNE, April 24. W. J. Cusley established a world’s record motor cycling 101 miles in ninety minutes six seconds. CARPENTER’S STRIKE. SYDNEY, This Day. The carpenters strike at Broken Hill has spread to Port Pirie where the Carpenters employed by the Associated smelters have struck. COAL TROUBLE.* SYDNEY, Tins Day. Seven collieries are idle in the, northern districts. It is believed to lie part of a preconcerted plan to force owners io grant increases. Serious trouble is anticipated.
