SOVIET IN ARGENTINE. NEW YORK, March 19. Dispatches from Buenos Aires state that thirty-four prominent business men, in a circular, declare that- a Soviet controls the port and the country and also the foreign trade. They intimated that the foreign agitators would be deported. CANADIANS LABOUR. NEW YORK, March 19. OTTAWA, March 19. Western Canadian labour unions at a Conference at Calgary, voted to seven their affiliation with the American Federation of Labour. The unions will henceforth try to organise by separate industries. The question will be submitted to all local unions for adoption.
IN KOREA. WASHINGTON, March' 19. Despatches from Peking say an American missionary from Korea ’stated that during the past decade, Koreans have been brutally treated. Women and children were beaten by the Japanese authorities, who charged American missionaries with teaching Koreans ideas of individual rights. Japanese soldiers heat two American women missionaries and the American Consul at Seoul and were arrested by Japanese but later were released. Despatches from Tokio say the independence demonstrations in Korea continue. PROPAGANDA IN BRITAIN. LONDON,, March 23. The Government organ, the “Daily Express’’ states:—The British authorities have discovered a Bolshevik plot to land emissaries and vast quantities of literature in Britain. The authorities have prevented a number of the agents from landing, but it is believed that much of the literature has been smuggled into London.

EXCEEDED BY DEATHS, fßeceived This Dav at 9.31). a'.ni.j LONDON, March 18. The births for the fourth quarter of 1918 in England and Wales were 161,775; and deaths 241,218. It is the first occasion on which the deaths have exceeded the births since registration began. Influenza was largely responsible, but there would have been an excess of deaths, without influenza. The figures for the whole of 1918, were births 662,773; deaths 611,991. The average annual excess of births over deaths for the previous five years was 237,664. The birth rate in 1918 was 17.7 the lowest recorded.
