SOME DOSSES. Captain R. K. Nicol, M.C., Wellington Regiment; was, in the middle ol last year, posted as “ Missing. believed to he dead.” There appears to he little doubt that he did die on service, for it is known ' definitely that he went back to a j Kurdish village to see after some Lewis-gnu stores that had been left . there, and a number of Kurds suddenly swooped down upon him. He was seen to he fighting a lone fight, and was never seen again. Very extensive enquiries were made, but the authorities were forced to the conclusion that he had been killed.

Another loss was that of Captain T. W. Rutherford, M.C., who died in Persia last October, of pneumonia, contracted on active service. He had a record of service at the Canal, on Gallipoli, and in France prior.to being withdrawn for special service in Mesopotamia. 011 return of the column to the base at Mesopotamia Major Starnes had an attack of appendicitis, for which he underwent an operation. Since reaching England, he has been down at the New Zealand Hospital, Walton, recuperating. Captain W. F. Tracy, M.C., Otago Regiment, was one of several New Zealanders in the force that did reach Baku.
