The conference of Chairman of Repatriation Boards and Local Committees at the chief provincial centres, which was called to consider matters affecting policy and procedure the new Act with a. view of securing uniformity of administration, concluded to-day.

SOLDIER’S BURSARIES

WELLINGTON, March 14. The Minister of Public Health stated -«s to-day that- about ninety applicationshave been received for the fifty war' bursaries recently offered by the War Funds Council. These bursaries areto enable the successful applicants to take any University course including law and medicine. The question of dealing with the applications, said the Minister was now under consideration. The necessary reports had been obtained from the Denied' Department and the Education Department in regard to each of the candidates and a further statement would be made within a few days. “The very largo number of applications received,” said the Minister, “justifies me, I think, in expressing the hone that the Patriotic Leagues of the Dominion will be pro. pared to assist in the work that has been started by the War bunds Council. I hesitate to make a direct application to these bodies, but I would like to say if any of them at* prepared to indicate their willingness to assist in the matter, the War Funds Council y* will he very pleased to confer with * them in order that, if possible the whole of the suitable applicants for bursaries may be assisted.” The Minister added that the first fifty applicants for bursaries were distributed over the four military districts as follows: Wellington 14,' Otago’ 2f, Cantorhurv 9. Auckland <5. He hoped t 0 have particulars of other applications next day.
