N.Z. DIV ISION.
GENERAL RUSSELL’S FAREWELL ADDRESS. (From Captain Malcolm Ross, Official War Correspondent with the New Zealand Forces.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. r i'lte following is General Russell’s farewell message on severing liis ciiiilieetion wiili the division:— “On leaving the division, after three and a half years of command. 1 wish to thank all ranks for their loyal support, and to congratulate them on their successes gained in the line and in action. At all times they have earned the respect of their adversaries and good word of those who fought by their side. “With one exception, each objective has been gained, and that exception added yet fresh laurels for tenacity and resolution in the face of insuperable difficulties. “There is no distinction between one unit and another, between one branch and another; all alike, including the staff have done their share of working for the common end. and together have earned a reputation of which their country is proud. “Now a word as to the future. When fresh problems are in front of us, successes as real, if less dramatic, w ill surely he ours. The effort w ill he less evident, because each will have his own zero hour; but the success will lie as great if we. continue to be animated by the same, spirit of each for all. “In conclusion, I wish you all a sale rel urn to New Zealand, and every prosperity and happiness in the future.”
