The executive of the branch passed a resolution that they did not endorse Oldfield’s candidature, as the constitution of the Farmers Union precludes participation in party polities.

The Auckland branch of the Seamen’s Union passed a resolution expressing grave concern at the disinfranchisement of seamen on transports and hospital ships, and demanding that this injustice be removed. A Returned Officers Institute lias bene formed in Auckland with the object to assist in repatriation, establish scholarships for children of deceased officers, and to create a benevolent fund to assist members or needy dependants. There will be about lour thousand officers on tin* completion ol demobilisation and if they are willing they should he an invaluable help in creating an efficient army for home defence.
