COAL-MINERS' STRIKE.
rAUSTRALIAN it N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] LONDON, Jan. 22. The’ Yorkshire miners’ strike on Thursday is inevitable. The coal owners are still declining to permit the customary stoppages for meals.. The Ministry of Labour after considering tho Engineers and ship-builders dispute informed] the Employers Federation and Trade unions which threw up their agreement'that they ought to settle the points arising therefrom. Meetings of these parties will be held on Wednesday and continue on Thursdav.
YORKSHIRE COAL STRIKE. LONDON, Jan. 25. The big Yorkshire coal strike has ended. Tho mineowners decided to agree to the workers getting twenty minutes for meal time. The strike had already caused a number of woollen mills to close up. If the strike had continued a few days it would have thrown thousands idle. It was the Coal Controller who conceded the twenty minutes meal stoppage for each shift.
MORE MINERS STRIKE. LONDON, Jan. 24. Several thousand miners on the NotItinghamshire coal field have struck. The strikers complain that a number of men, including discharged soldiers, have received a dismissal notice, without. a satisfactory reason being given The employers state that only twenty five men are under notice. They were temporarily engaged. They are now being dismissed to make room for more demobilised soldiers.
