REVOLUTION IN PORTUGAL.

It is understood the British Foreign Office takes the view that the rising in Portugal is not a genuinely royalist one, but is a Bolshevist move. Bolsheviks are considered to be using exKing Manuel’s name for their own ends. MINISTER ARRESTED. LONDON, Jan. 26. A Madrid message states that the Portuguese Premier has taken over the portoflio of war. The Minister visited Oporto, where he was arrested, but was released when he promised to support the Monarchists. A CHANGED SITUATION. LONDON, Jan. 122. Ex-King Manuel’s Lord-in-Waiting, Viscount Asseka, told the “Daily Chronicle” that Manuel at the outbreak of war urged Portugal to make no movement in his favour for the period of the war. The assassination of the President in December altered the situation, and theatened the country with chaos. Manuel placed Himself at Portugal’s disposal. If the country wished him to return, he would do so, regardless of difficulty and dangers; but he was in no way privy to the present movement.
Manuel, he added, had been treated with infinite kindness in England, but lie lived with the solo idea of returning to his throne. It must not he forgotten that there are forty monarchist members in the Portuguese Parliament. THE OPORTO GARRISON. MADRID, Jan. 22. The majority of the Oporto garrison have joined the Royalists, and they publicly burned the Republican Hag.
