WESTLAND TROTTING CLUB

A meeting of the Committee of the above Club was held last evening, Mr JO. McGregor presiding over an almost full attendance of members. The Secretary (Mr M. H. Houston) submitted an abstract of receipts and expenditure of the race meeting held on the Oth inst. The total receipts amounted to £IOO- 11s (id, and the expenditure to £8(52 7s Id, leaving a credit surplus of £230 ‘ls 2d. In moving (he adoption ol the abstract, the Chairman said the Club had every right to he highly satisfied as to the result. Not a single hitch of any kind occurred, and visiting sportsmen had warmly congratulated the officials on the conduct uf the meeting. These gentlemen promised to patronise future meetings more liberally, and to induce others to follow their example. Other members also endorsed the Chairman's remarks. Special mention was made of the splendid services rendered by the ladies who managed and conducted the refreshment booths, which left a net profit of over £lO.

The Chairman was authorised to join the Westland Racing Club in presenting those ladies with a handsome memento in recognition of their services. The action of the Chairman in coming to a satisfactory arrangement with Mr J. Bryce, the owner of the champion trotter, Cathedral Chimes, to bring his horse over the ranges for the next meeting was warmly approved. The Government tax for the meeting amounted to £339 2s 3d. Several small grants to the Band and caretaker of the course were made, and it was also resolved to pay to the Westland Pacing Club the sum of £75 for the hire of course and appointments.

The question of improving the racing track was discussed at length, and it was decided to join with the Racing Club in expending a certain amount for this purpose. Nine new members to the Club were elected.
