LONDON, Jan. 17

The Seamen’s and Firemen’s Union officials have summoned an international conference in London for the 24th February. It is to consider a proposal for the holding up of foodstuffs bound for enemy countries. Mr. Havelock Wilson, Coalition Labour M.P., in an interview, stated that he hoped) Australia, Canada and New Zealand seamen would be represented at the conference, as well as the seamen of American and European Allied and neutral countries. Wilson. declared that if the Conference adopted the British sections’ proposed resolution, whereof copies hadi been sent to Mr. Lloyd Ceorge, President Wilson, and M. iClemonceau, then the problem of re-victualling tho enemy countries would not be an easy one. “For,” he said, “We intend to stop all ships for enemy ports.” He added that the total money claimed as compensation for the neutral and Alliedl seamen murdered by Germans amounted to ten millions sterling.

BRITISH COAL MINERS. LONDON, Jan. 17. The Coal Miners’ Federation Conference has decided to demand a 150 per cent, advance in wages and also that the existing war advances shall be continued. LABOUR AND SOCIALISM.

LONDON, Jan. 18. The Labour and Socialist Conference will open at Borne on the 21st inst. There will ho German delegates attended this Conference. Simultaneously with it, the lutor-National Trades Union Congress will assemble at Berne. Both conferences will keep in touch with eacli other. Air. Arthur Henderson has arrived in Paris, and will attcndl both Labour Conferences. He expects to devise means to submit the findings to the Peace Conference. ft is understood that lie is negotiating with the Peace Delegates to that end. Mr. Henderson hopes to he of ser vice in helping to solve the Russian problem.

American Labour has not yet decided to participate.
