STARVING VIENNA. [AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION^ (Received This Day at 10.35. a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 17. Beatrice Baskerville, the New York “World’s” Vienna correspondent, states the food conditions there are appalling. Vienna needs everything from coal to clothing and transports to soap. Everybody but the rich arc existing on dry bread, Swedish frozen souverkraufc and sugar beets. The poor people are trying to exist on a pound of potatoes pcV week, 11 pounds of bread. Acorn coffee replaces real, and dried oak leaves are substituted for tobacco, dried chick ory and strawberry leaves are used as a substitute for tea. Flour is sold by profiteers at a cost of three dollars per pound. Government allows unemployed workmen one dollar 20 cents daily. This is not- sufficient to buy bread )
