The funeral of the late Mr. John J. Immediately after, Messrs Jeffries and Coy. sold similar rights for the trotting meeting bv the Westland Trotting Club on the 9th. Jan. Mr Ferguson, second engineer of the s.s. Kaiina, died in the Westport Hospital on Friday. Ho had boon an inmate for some time suffering from influenza. I The Union Company’s steamer Navua is due at Wellington this week from San Francisco, via Papeete, where it is reported influenza is rife. It is not yet known whether the vessel will be quarantined there ,but on recent precedent- it is practically certain that she will be. A ship arrived there all well from San Francisco last week, a clean ship, but she bad influenza cases e*arly , on tho voyage, and the vessel was quarantined for three days on arrival. i A message received by the Governor- ' General from the Secretary of State for the Colonies gives the following state- ' ment of the Admiralty: “The censorship oh all naval articles, photographs, etc., has been removed.
