Before the House of Representatives rose on Monday, Sir James Allen read the following telegram which he had just received :—“Now Zealand prisoners from Germany are now arriving in England i-> company with British prisoners. Upon arrival their health is first consideration. They are given 28 days’ leave if fit, and then have priority of return to New Zealand. Prisoners from Turkey go to Egypt, whenco they have priority of return either direct or via England.” I At a meeting of the Reefton Citizen’s Committee on Monday, Sergt-MajorJ Mcttriek reported that Mr J. S. Evans, j who arrived in Reefton from Westport! on Sunday, refused to go through the ; inhalation chamber, stating that ho had a doctor’s certificate, but refused to produce it. Mr Cooper said this was a serious case. Mr Evans being a Magis-1 trnte should have known better. They should go on yith a case against him. The matter was referred to Sergt-Major j Metrick to take proceedings.
