OBITUARY.

The friends of Air’ Prendergast, Ikamatua Landing, will regret to learn of the death of his wife, which occurred at Greymouth on Sunday after a short illness. The deceased leaves a family of six.

Influenza and pneumonia claimed another victim in Westport, Mrs Barnson, wife of Mr Magnus Barnson, passing away on Saturday. Deceased leaves sorrowing husband and family of seven children the eldest being 18 years of age. Deceased was a native of Leith, Scotland, 44 years of age.

Mrs E. C. Rickard, postmistress, Ahaura, lias received advice that her only son, Staff Sergeant George Rickard, Army Pay Corps, had died of pneumonic influenza, at Island Bay Wellington, on November 26th. His wife also succumbed to the same disease. Great sympathy will be felt for Airs Rickard fn her double bereavement.

News was received yesterday of the death of Mrs C. Ferguson, of Hawke’s Bay. Deceased, who was the third daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs Hugh Adamson, was well and favourably known on the West Coast, especially among the people of South Westland, she and her husband living at Hari Hari for six years, removing to Havelock about two years ago. She leaves a husband and two children, a father four brothers and five sisters to mourn their loss.

The late Sapper John McLaughlin, who died last month in France from influenza, was the second son of Air. and Airs McLaughlin, of Ngahere. Ho left New Zealand with the 28th Reinforcements, and was on active service in France for one year and a half. This is the second son of Air and Mrs McLaughlin who has made the supreme sacrifice, another son James having been killed at the Dardanelles in 1915. A third son, James is still in France, where he has been on active service for two vears.
