Mrs J. I). Christie, of Greymouth, j lias received word that Iter brother" Private,). McGeady. had been killed in action on the sth. November. Deceased was a sou of the .late Patrick McGeady, a well-known settler in the Grey Valley. Private McGeady was born at Maintai, and prior to joining up, worked round lkamatua and Blackwatcr. Sister Mary Ignatius, one of tho Sisters of Mercy who is acting as nurse at St Columbia Rooms, Greymouth met with a painful accident yesterday morning. She was engaged cooking for the patients, when by stnne moans, a kettle. containing boiling water was upset over her. scalding her severely. She will be incapaeitod for a couple of weeks. The ferry steamer Mararoa had a stormy passage from Wellington to Lyttelton on Saturday night. She left her berth at 4.30 p.m., and on reaching the Straits encountered a boisterous southerly wind and heavy sea, and at daybreak was only off Kaikoura. The Mararoa carried a. full compliment of passengers, including nearly 300 soldiers from camp, who are returning to their homes. The trip was an unsually protracted one. having occupied 19 hours.
