A CAMP DEMONSTRATION
WELLINGTON, This Day. The “Dominion” states there has l)oen much dissatisfaction and discontent at Featherston Camp, culminating in an ugly demonstration hy some five thousand men in front of Headquarters. Ultimately the men presented eleven demands to the Commander, having reference to the discharge, with out pay, or the usual sick leave, to men who had been ill; to stoppages on various accounts to which the men strenuously object; who is to got the canteen funds now in hand; will the Home Service men be discharged under the same eonditons as memebrs of the Expeditionary Force. Sir .James Allen and Colonel Gibbons went up to camp and a stormy interview followed with the men’s delegates. A further interview took place with General Robin and General Tate, ending in a settlement, said to be satisfactory. ’I he authorities gave way on a number of points. It was admitted that leave without pay, while legal might be inequitable in some cases, and it would be* decided at an early date. The canteen money would be given to returned soldiers in hospital at "Trentham. Home service men would be treated in the same manner as men of the Expedtionary Force.
