Grimmond telegraphed this forenoon from Wellington that the Minister of Public Health was trying to get medical assistance for Westland County to help in the present epidemic.
The Minister of Finance acknowledges in the last Gazette the receipt of £3 10s, forwarded to the High Commissioner for Now Zealand by a person unknown, as conscience-money to the New Zealand Government.
The Grey Argus says.—lt is stated that a sluicing claim at Moonlight has struck it rich, having had two most satisfactory washings during the past couple of weeks. It is said that one piece weighed upwards of 45 ozs. The Drapers and Bootmakers of the town notify that commencing on Monday of next week their business hours will he from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except oil Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon, so as to enable the stalls to assist in combatting the epidemic. The Military Service Boards have been almost completely closed down throughout New Zeablnd, and their work is finished, except for a few appeals by men on active service who desire leave on account of urgent business or other reasons. Those cases will he dealt with separately.
At Addington Stock sales on Wed. nesday there was a small entry of fat pigs no stores being offered. There was a good demand for baeoners, but porkers were easier at the end of the sale.
