The Telegraph Office advised this ai ! ternoon that as the result of a thunder , storm at an early hour this morning I “ie telegraph line between Colds j borough and Kuniara was struck bj j lightning. In one instance a tolegrapi J pole was smashed and broken and ii other instances the poles were damaged. The damages caused were of sued a nature that communication between Hokitika and the north was entirely cut off all day and no telegraphic business in or out was transacted. It was I not expected, we were informed at 3.15 p.in. that the line would he restor!ed until well on in the evening.
