The Westland Land Board meets tomorrow afternoon. The business sheet is not as lengthy ns usual. Mr J. A. Valentine, Inspector of Schools states that Standard VI examinations of all schools throughout the district have been postponed indefinitely.
The rainfall for 2-1 hours to 9 a.m. yesterday was 2.86 inches, and to 9 a.in. to-dav 2.40 inches—a total of 5.26 inches for the two days.
The heavy flood yesterday prevented conveyances coining in from Kokatahi yesterday morning. The ambulance went out last night to bring in a couple of patients from that district. There was again an incessant downpour fast- night, and the flood in the river continued very high, though the low-lying streets were • not flooded to such an extent as on the previous day.
It is notified that in order to carry out urgent repairs to thoßorougli water supply line the supply will probably have to he cut off for several hours during the next few days. That the lineman had gone out, out it was not expected that communication would ho resumed till about 2 p.m. Meantime Hokitika wascut off from the north.
Owing to the seriousness of the influenza epidemic, and to enable the Kokatahi residents to attend vile funeral of the late Mr Hugh Johnstone, the stock fixture of Messrs Jeffries and Co., down for to-morrow, has been postponed until a future date, which will be notified in these columns. Some further damage has been dbne to Lake Kanieri road at Scotchman’s Bend, near McKay's Creek bridge, hv the present flood. The road has been further encroached upon, reducing the width available for wheel traffic. The road is -not- safe fur motor traffic, and traffic generally will he impeded till lie weather conditions permit, of reniirs and restoration.
The Chief Postmaster (Mr A. H. stewart) advises that the telephonist it Wntaroa reports that the Ross-Wai-ho Gorge conch, which left Ross on Saturday morning, has been held up at Wntaroa by heavy rains and floods, ■imi there was no indication at mid-day ■if the weather clearing. The telephone communication between Ross and Okarito was also interrupted, and lost all stations south of Rotokino. Telegraph and telephone communication between Greymouth. Kumara and Hokitika was interrupted all the morning.
