Many others try to “stick it out,” and stay on in their offices or wherever they are employed, and poison the building at every breath. A man who does that neither does his duty to himself, his employer, or the community, and apart from the fact that he is a menace to everyone, he runs a grave risk of bringing on an attack of pneumonia. He is rather more than a fool—he is a criminal.”

The Commissioners inquired into the ease. The fraud was accomplished partly by manipulation of and was for a. time concealed by tin l usual cleverness. Nothing was revealed to indicate any lack of alertness on the part of the Treasury on Audit Departments. The defalcations were rendered possible by the fact that the culprit was an old and trusted officer, who held a sufficiently high position in the department to he treated as both certifying and paying officer of account’s. This is a practice which should never he allowed in the Head Office of arty department, however small the department may be. The offender was sentenced to a term of imprisonment.'’
