OBITUARY.

The death of Mr Antonia Baretta took place yesterday at the residence of his daughter, Goldsborough. The deceased was a native of Nice, France, and was 78 years of age. He had been ailing for a- considerable time. For many years he resided on the Araluua road, being an employee at Malfroy’s mill. His wife died many years ago. He leaves a family of five —two sons (Jack and Tony), and three daughters Mrs Tinetti of Goldsborough one in the North Island and one in Italy). The family will have the sympathy of many friends.

The death took place yesterday at Grcymouth of Mr R. L. .1. Downes, (ita'tionmaster at Oti.ra. He was 20 years of age and a native of Dunedin, and had been 12 years in the Railway Department. He leaves a wife, who is at present an influenza patient at the Grey River Hospital, and for whom much sympathy is felt.

The death of Mrs Dorns, a respected Grcymouth resident, who is one of the latest victims of influenza, took place yesterday evening at the Grey Hospital; Deceased was 66 years of age, and a native of Portsmouth, England. Mrs Mallinson is a daughter.

The death of Mr Welter Kemp, of Grcymouth, took place at the Grey Hospital yesterdlav afternoon. Deceased was another victim to the pre--ailing epidemic. He had not been long dling, hut the trouble became serious in his ease from Hie ontsel, and he was therefore removed io lie hospital, whore (espite all that could be done by medic- ■>] skill, the ailment had a fatal result. The late. Mr Kemp, who formerly resid'd at Reef to n, had for some years past carried on a drapery and fancy goods business in Taiiiui street. He leaves a wife and family of three daughters.. Tho sudden death of the leader of the Parliamentary Labour group, came as a shock to the House. Mr. Hindmarsh took part in the early work of the session. and -until- this morning it was not known that his attack of influenza had taken a serious turn.
