The downfall of the Hohenzollerns . and their igmihious flight is the absorbing topic of the newspapers. The fate of Nerses and Darius is recalled ns a parallel to a ruin more immense ; anj sudden than (Europe ever witnessed ; Columns are published of extracts from j the braggart and blasphemous utter- ; ances of the Kaiser- and the hope is j expressed that the Imperial criminal will not escape punishment for the misdeeds of the nation he misguided. The Kaiser is gone for ever is regarded as certain, but it is pointed out- that there is a danger of a reaction in favour of Kaiserism, if the people through his disappearance escaped the penalties of the crimes they applauded. All tho German guards on tho Dutch frontier threw down their arms and left their posts thus enabling the Kaiser, the Kaiserin and the Crown Prinro with their suite, to reach Holland without misadventure. Some German royalties were less fortunate. Prince amt Princess' Henry who is wounded in the arm are hiding in Schleswig, near the Danish frontier with Princess Adalbert and her children, . while Prince Adalbert is taking refuge in his yacht of which the crew remains loyal. The fate of the King and Crown Prince of Bavaria, who fled from the Palace one morning and also the fate of the Kings of Saxony and Wurtomburg are still uncertain.
