LOCAL PEACE

MEETING AT TOWN HALL. A meeting convened by liis Worship the Mayor was held at the Town Hall j yesterday afternoon, to arrange for the reception of peace news - and its j celebration. Mr Perry occupied the chair, and representatives of public , bodies and several local organisations were present. j After a general discussion on a draft programme which was submitted, the following was agreed to:— ■* On receipt of official new# -to be signalled by the ringing of bells and , the hoisting of flags on the Post Office ; ,and Town Hall, a general holiday to j be observed. Citizens to display J bunting and other loyal decorations of premises etc. Public procession to form at 3 p.m. in Hamilton Street, heading towards Government Building and to march via Sewell Street to the Quay and then to Revel 1 Street. If weather fine to continue to Cass Square, otherwise to return to front of Public Building in Sewell Street, j Marshal for procession—Lieut McGregor. 1 Order of procession—Flags, of Allies, Town Band, Returned Soldiers, Territorials and Cadets, Public Bodies, Red Cross and Patriotic Works, Caledouian Pipe Baud, Caledonian, Hibernian, Druid and other Societies, u Britannia ” and “ Joan of Arc (nominated), Schools, Fire Brigade, Trades and Tableaux, General Public, Alotor and other decorated vechicles. Public meeting at 4 p.m., the Mayor to preside ; singing of Doxology and “Old Hundredth”; Territorials fire “ Feu-de-Joie ” ; National Anthem (3 verses); address by Alayor; selection by Town Band, “ Garland of Flowers,” in memory of fallen ; address by County Chairman and other speakers, interspersed with National music by band, and chorus singing. Evening.—As entertainments indoors are prohibited by Health Department, illumination of town and buildings, bon-fires as can be arranged ; open air concerts afr suitable vantage points; torchlight procession by Highlanders and fireworks as obtainable ; bands parade.

THE SECOND DAY

Thanksgiving and Memorial Services as may be arranged by the clergy. Children’s picnic and treat on Lass Square; sports, games, etc; School Committee and Teachers to be in charge of gathering. Evening. — Free picture shows abandoned owing to veto of authorities. Illumination of town and parade of bands, etc , as on previous night. It was mentioned at the meeting that the local bodies would meet the expenses, and in order that the children of the schools in the County will not be overlooked, the County Chairman (Mr B. AYard), on behalf of the Westland County Council, is arranging to subsidise financially any effort the local committees may make to entertain the country children at a treat to mark the celebration of peace.
