Reuter’s correspondent at British Headquarters, telegraphing yesterday, says: The enemy’s retreat continues but there is no question of a rout. We are simply pressing the Germans hard. They are, however, covering their withdrawal with a. screen of mobile ms. dhiine-guns find other defences. We know confusion and demoralisation exists among the foe hut so strong is their ingrained training and discipline that tlieir leaders manage to keep the men in hand. Mr Sidebotham states: The whole organised German Army has now to squeeze through a narrowing and rapidly congesting pocket of fifty to sixty miles extent, between Avesnes and Mezieres. •GERMANS MURDER CIVILIANS. LONDON November 7. Router’s correspondent on the Belgian front says: The Bavarians before evacuating, systematically pillaged Deynze. They massacred 163 civilians on the orders of General Von Ostcawski When looting was finished the, Bavarians drove the inhabitants into cellars and threw incendiary bombs. The whole of ono Courtrai street was burned, and 34 civilians were encincruted, while 129 others were killed by shells fired after the Germans left the town.
