Ihe Mayor made the announcement in the presence of several thousand at the Town ITall, and declared a public halfholiday. All bands will turn out for tire procession. The Licensed I ictuallers’ Association decided to close all hotels from 2.30 to 4.30. AT WAIMATE. ' WAKIATE. 'Hi is Day. The town was beflagged and great ringing of bells when the news of 'I urlcev’s surrender was received. The Mayor and others addressed a, mass meeting at the Post Office at noon, whereafter the town closed up tor two hours. AT GREYMOUTH. GREYMOUTH This Day. The town celebrated Turkey’s sur render by hoisting flags, ringing bells and blowing whistles. A demonstration will bo held to-nighii.
