Replying to Air Smith (Paliiatua). Sir Joseph Ward said he would make a statement with regard to the next war loan, when dealing with new financial requirements for next year. The folowing bills were introduced and read a first time—Hauraki Plains, Thames and Ohinomuri Counties Bill (Mr Bhodes, Thames); New Plymouth Harbour Empowering Bill (Mr Smitn. Taranaki); Auckland Institute and Museum Empowering Bill (Mr Parr); Workers Compensation Amendment Bill (Mr ITi ml marsh); Temporary Employees Bill (Dr Newman); Maori War Mela 1 Bill (Mr Wright); Harbours Act Amendment Bill (Mr Hindmarsh); Legislature Amendment Bill (Mr Wright); Shops and Offices Amendment Bill (Mr Hindmarsh.)

EVENING SUITING

At the evening sitting Mr Anderson moved and Mr Talbot seconded the -Ad-dress-i n-Reply. Mr Hindmarsh moved an amendment that as Government had lamentably failed to deal with the questions of war profiteering and the cost of living, his Excellency be advised that a general election should be bold early in the coming year.

Mr McCombs seconded the motion which, on division, was lost by 48 to 12. The House rose at 31.50. p.m.
