SOLDIERS RUSIXESS.

| WELLINGTON, October 28. | Regulations were gazetted on August | 27th, providing for the protection of I soldiers’ businesses during the absence lof men on active service. The Minister i of Defence stated to-day that under ! these regulations arrangements had been j made for the inanngeinnt of a good I many .soldiers’ businesses, but the number of soldiers’ property Boards of trustee appointed under direction of the National Efficiency Hoard was not large. He hoped to see the scheme expand m usefulness . The Minister mentioned that he had in his hand papers concerning the ease in which a soldiers’ business had been protected, and lie wished to have it made public some of the details in order to encourage other men who might be sent into camp to make arrangements for the conduct of their businesses. The man iu nuestion had been a gentleman’s outfitter and retail wool salesman. I'lie Efficiency Board had made arrangements with another outfitter to allow his assistant to take charge of the soldiers’ business under the direction of a Board of Trustees. v

CENTENARIAN’S DEATH . AUCKLAND, This Day. Mrs Elizabeth Sutherland died yesterday at Epsom, aged 104 years. She had been a resident for 71 years in Neiv Zealand.
