At 1. 45. a.m., General Haig reports We entered the western suburbs of Valenciennes and penetrated - doeply north-west thereof into Raisnes Forest,, towards the angle of the Scheldt, at Conde. Wo progressed eastward of St Amand and reached the Scheldt' at HolJain and Brityelle. Southward of Tournai wo captured Freyonnes. Further north there, was sharp fighting for the Scheldt crossings at Pontncliin.
