THE LIQUOR QUESTION.
SIR JOSEPH WARD’S VIEWS
ON EFFICIENCY BOARD’S PLAN. In reply to a deputation of businessmen yesterday (states the “Auckland Star” of Friday last), Sir Joseph Ward stated that he was favourable to a vote of the people by referendum in accordance with the recommendation of the Efficiency Board, which provided tor compensation to the Trade, and that, should the decision of the electors not he favourable to the Efficiency Board's recommendation, then separate issues 1 should be provided for by Parliament ! this session and submitted to the people at the general election. Also, that the soldiers away from the Dominion in both cases shoidd be given the right and opportunity to vote. “T expressed th o above as my opinion, and that Cabinet would, of course, have to consider and decide the matter m due course.”
The Anglican Synod, sitting at Auckland, carried a resolution expressing the opinion that the Gouin ment should give the people an early opportunity of deciding by referendum the question of national prohibition or continuance., —Press Association.
