The ordinary meeting of tbo Board was held on Saturday at 7 p.m. Present: Messrs R. Wild, (chair), J, J. Mclntosh,'and F. McGregor. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and outward correspondence confirmed. • INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. Several letters from Advance to Settlers office and Soldiers Financial Assistance Board in reference to rates owing by some property holders were received and referred to the rate collect-
or. From Secretary Marine Department, three letters in reference to a number of technical matters affecting the adminisration of Harbour Board affairs, were received. ’ Front Harbours Association, \\ ellmgton, asking for the support of the Board in their endeavour to have legislation introduced in favour of Government paying Harbour boards on Government’cargo transport, and trading ships.—Received and resolved to ask Hons Michel and Grimmond, M. L. G. s to support the proposal. j From Secretary, Volunteer hire Brigade, again drawing attention to | timber having been deposited near th# j approaches to the stand pipes on Gibson’s Quay.—Received, and resolved that Messrs Stuart and Chapman be informed that if any further complaints are received their right to the skids in the vicinity of the stand pipes will be cancelled. From Minister and Secretary of Marino Department in reference to compliance with War Regulations-of officials in the employ of the Board. Received and attended to. \ report was received from the Har-bour-master stating the depth of water on the bar was 15 feet with a straigh channel, and stating that the pile driviiicv engine was now* being used bv the Westland Gold Prospecting Syndicate at Humphrey’s Gully. The Rate Collector reported receipts since last meeting £253 9s lid; payments £391 3s 7d; hank overdraft £ll7. Accounts to the amount of £350 12s t;d were passed for payment. The Chairman referred to the necessity of trying to increase the Board s revenue in view of the : hviokage of the current year’s. receipts, and he gate notice that he would move at next meet ing of the Board that the wharfage charges on inward cargoes he 4s per ton and 2s per ton on outward cargo. The meeting then terminated.
