“THE DEEMSTER.”
HALL CAINE’S GREAT NOVEL THURSDAY.
At the Princess Theatre on next Thursday evening the 24th inst. E. J. Carroll will present Hall Caine’s immortal work." “The Deemster.” The story lends itself easily and effectively .to screen requirements, and there is sentimental interest in the selection of Derwent Hall Caine to head the„ cast. The story is made to live by the inclusion of a wealth of satisfying detail in scenic effects, quaint Manx customs and dresses, and a little bit of the real life of the isle not known to the average. 'The acting is generally of such high order of merit that the story engrosses the attention from beginning to end. The scenery is superb throughout, and the fight on the cliff edge is most realistically depicted. The author’s son, Derwent Hall Caine, appears as the incorrigible wayward but lovable Dan, and Marian Swayne, a notable English actress, appears as the long-suffering but steadfast Mona. The loves of these characters, by the way, was the inspiration for Stephen Adam’s famous song “Mona.” The whole picture is a great one from start to finish. The prices arc set at 2s and Is, plus war tax ; children half-price. Box plan as Mrs Browne’s.
