HOKITIKA BOWLING CLUB.
The annual meeting of members was held in the pavilion last evening, Mr P. p, Stewart presiding over about a dozen members. The minutes of last annual meeting were read and confirmed, and a quantity of routine correspondence dealt with. ANNUAL REPORT. The Secretary (Mr J- N. Nalder) read the annual report, which stated that the financial position had improved somewhat during the season, the liabilities to the bank having been reduced by £'.‘ll (is Id. during the year, the subscriptions having amounted to £BO 17s Od, as against £46 4s for the previous year, the Club’s indebtedness now standing at £376 3s 3d. The annual .tournament had passed off successfully on the local green, the receipts amounting to £lB 4s, and expenses to L'4 4s lOd, leaving a balance of £l3 19s •2d, which had been handed over to the Y.M.C.A. fund. Though the green was not in such good order as could have been desired the play had proved of a high order, while the players had expressed their approval of the general arrangements for the meeting. The honors of the'Singles Championship fell to Mr. CL IT. Blank who has for several seasons entered for the competition, and he was entitled to congratulations on his win, the more so because the entries were large and the play keen. During the close season the green lias been ploughed fertilised and resown and though the winter lias been severe it is expected to have better conditions this season than were present last season. The only inter-club matches plavod last year were with the Grey Chib and on each occasion our team was defeated. An early exchange with the Grey Club would be in the interests of the game. The Club’s thanks vole again due to the ladies whose indispensable services from time to time added so much to the pleasure of gatherings on the green, and particularly to tile special effort so successfully made in connection with the tournament. Thanks were also due to the officers and sub-committees for their services on the Club’s behalf.—Received. The balance sheet was also read and adopted. . Mr Brace moved that a special vote of thanks be accorded to the members working in the upkeep of the gieen and further for the efficient way the tournament was run. Seconded by Mr. Hickson and carried. An invitation from the Grey Club to their opening game next Saturday was received with, pleasure and seveial members signified tlioir intention, of being present. In connection with a letter from the Grey Club' expressing regret at ail incident that occurred at a Club game, on the local green and their action in connection therewith.' the meeting expressed its regret that anything had occurred railing for the action taken. Several probable new members were mentioned and it was resolved to extend a special invitation to the opening ceremony. A motion of sympathy was passed to the widow and relatives of the late Mr. J. T)ownev,_a valued member of the Club and" its first singles champion. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The following officers were appointed : President. —Mr A. E. Benjamin. Vice- President, —Mr G. 11. Blank. Treasurer,—Mr. A.' E. Benjamin. Secretary,—Mr. J. N. Nalder. • Committee,—Messrs.Parkinson, Ilarrop, Thompson, Braddoii, Hickson, J. H. Wilson Lloyd and W. Wilson. Delegate to centre—Mr. A..E. Benjamin. .Mr Harrop moved that a letter expressing the thanks of the Gluh he forwarded to the Chairwoman of the ladies committee in appreciation of the services of the ladies during the season and especially during the. tournament. Seconded hy'Mr. Stevenson, and supported by Mr .Stewart and carried. A discussion took place as to the advisability of admitting lady members. Mr. Harrop moved that consideration be referred to tlie Committee for favourable consideration. Seconded hy Mr. Stewart and carried. Mr. Parkinson moved a special vote of thanks to the local press for publicity given to the Club’s affairs. Seconded bv Mr. Stewart and carried. The meeting then terminated.
GENERAL COMMITTEE. The General Committee then met when the following committees were apnoiuted. Ground. —Messrs Thompson, Parkinson, llraddun, Marrop, Stevenson Hicksoil and Lloyd. (Meeting to he held on Friday at 5.1 d p.m.)
Match. —Messrs Braddon, Stevenson, and Nalder.
After discussion a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Stevenson, Hickson. Parkinson, President and Vice President was set up to ascertain what support would lie available towards proposal to receive lady members, at a fee of 10s (id each. It was mentioned that two rinks could be set aside solely for ladies play. The opening day was left to the Ground Committee to arrange. The meeting then terminated.
