OSTEND SECTOR CUT OFF.
LONDON, October 15. A report at. noon states the Allies are now only two miles from Courtrai. The Allied artillery is raking the enemy’s communications between Lille Courtrai and Tliourout. This means that the Allies dominate the link connecting the Germans in Lille and Ostend sectors. ANGLO-BELGIANS SWEEP ON. LONDON, October 15. Mr Robinson writes: The AngloBelgiah a’dvancc has everywhere swept over its objectives. The advance takes us beyond the quagmire region, and we are now on fairly firm going. Many prisoners declare that the Armistice talk has induced them to surrender. One officer explained his spie and span attire by saying: “I have my peace clothes on.” GERMAN REPORT. LONDON, October 15. A wireless Herman official report states: The enemy in Flanders has renewed attacks on a wide front and has captured Roulers. Hanzeone and Cortemarck.
PROTECTION OF CIVILIANS. ’ LONDON, October 10. A Berlin official announcement has been received to the effect that’ me German command lias requested the Swiss to inform the French that owing to the fears of bombardment a severe panic is probable among the civilians in the region of Lille ana Valenciennes.
The messages state the Swiss have also been asked to intimate that the Dutch Government lias been asked, and- has agreed to shelter fugitives as far as possible. A further Berlin official message announces the serious plight of ithirtythousand civilians and it proposes that the Allies should agree to refrain bombarding the towns of Northern France. It adds that Germany is prepared to come to an agreement for part of the population to cross into the enemy lines. Failing compliance with this proposal Germany will not. be responsible for the civilians in the occupied territory. BRITISH NEAR LILLE, i ßeceived Tob Day at 9.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 16.
