BRITISH OPERATIONS. LONDON, October 6. This evening Sir Douglas Haig reports : We improved our positions slightly in local engagements southeast and northwards of Aubcnucheul Aux Bois to northwards of Sc-'irpe.
We obtained possess of Fresney and established ourselves in the eastern outskirts . The British have now advanced from two to three miles along a 13 mile front between Lens and A mention's, but have not yet entered' Arinentieres.
