LONDON] October 2. This evening a wireless German official report states:—We withdraw parts of our salient lines near St Quentin also north-west of Rhcims and westward of the Argonne. The enemy gained a footing in the Ledeghem, but our conn ter attack regained the eastern part.
On the fifth day of the Cambrai bn title ,we repulsed seven assaults north ward of Sancourt and further south. Tile enemy advanced beyond Abancourt and Bandigny. An enemy ascsnult broke down south of Cambrai. The enemy has captured Ramilly and lias occupied St. Quentin, We withdrew from Vesles. A GERMAN THREAT. Mioooivcd Tliiy Dnv at 11.2"'. n.m.) BERNE, Oct. 3. German military authorities have issued a proclamation in Alsace drawingattention to nocturnal attacks on troop trains between Colmar and Mulhausen by pro-French civilians -with rifles. It adds that if, as hitherto, the authorities are unable to discover the perpetrators of such outrages, reprisals hereafter will he carried out on the whole population of the districts concerned.
