GERMAN MORALE. LONDON, October 1Mr Phillip Gibbs writes: The English and Canadians have captured army orders which completely bear o"t what was recently said about the deterioration of the German morale and the partial cracking of their discipline. One of these orders, issued before Fridays battle, states the Hindenburg line was to be their winter position, and not a foot must be lost, Another order savs- “The morale and discipline ol our men has plainly decreased, owing to the system of clastic defence. Raiding men believe ground to be of no value. Secondly there is a lack of control and example among the officers also lack of personality among the officers This is shown by unnecessary rctircmeits tlic conduct of the men on leave and by riots such as those tit Cambrai, in which officers joined.
