“I had just about decided to do without new clothes this Summer,” said a man the other day when I a ran ac?os 3 an old friend looking unusually well in a new grey suit. After a remark ®r two about the war and the present high cost of living, I casually asked him what lie paid for the suit, saying that Six or Seven pounds was more than I could afford those limes. Bless you, he answered, don’t run away with that idea. It looks a six or seven guinea suit, hut it- actually cost me only eightv-five shillings cash. 1 had it made to oi'der too, with the distinct understanding that if it did not moot my idea of a good suit there was no transaction, aiid my money must be refunded. Of course I was rather sceptical. All right, lie said, you can easily prove it by writing to John 11. Glasson, Box 41, Christchurch, and ask him for his patterns and easy measurement form, just like [ did, I took the hint and was surprised to find I could get a suit made from 75/-, 85/-, 95/-. .105/-, with a money back guarantee. He was taken to the homes of settlers, where he recounted thrilling stories of his exploits and was entertained to wine, and cigar s in a regal fashion. At length he announced that he was to return to the front as a “lieutenant-colonel.” But, somehow, or another, he overdid the business, and inquiries were set afoot.
