Roberts of Kumara is left to mourn his loss and he will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in his bereavement- f At the Arahura Road school on Friday evening last the residents tendered a farewell social to Mrs J. J. Henderson. who has retired from the teaching service on superannuation. There was a very large gathering present, including many visitors. Mr \V. A. Jamieson presided stating the gathering had been called together to bid farewell to Mrs Henderson who had been for 34 years on the teaching staff of the Arahura school. ComplimenI tary speeches wore made hy Hon. H. L. Michel, Mr B. Ward, (County Chairman). Mr. T. W. Bruce, and Mr. J. Cameron. (Chairman of School Committee), the latter asking acceptance of the accompanying gift as a memento from ex-pupils and the residents of the district. Mr. B. Ward as the oldest pupil replied on behalf of the recipient in fitting terms. During the evening an enjoyable musical programme was given and after suppex had l>oen handed round a very successful function concluded with the singing or Auld Lang Syne.
