,Heaved Thi,

Air George Perris reports General Galowitz’s sudden abandonment of.Malmaison front, one of the strongest Geiinnn positions on the West Front, and his retreat, behind the A'dcttc, began on Friday night. General Mangin's Army has been steadily pursuing the patient investment of Mnlmaison plateau hv a concentric movement from the northward j westward and southward. Troops were engaged in a fierce encounter on Friday at Colombe Faim, and bombarded the whole region during the night. Patrols went out at six next morning, and encountered resistance around-the ruined villages of Dy and Aizy, but. exploding bombs' and burning stores made it clear what was afoot. A general advance was begun nt nine, between Vaux-Aillon and Vailly, and quickly reached and passed the rffumlous landmarks of Chemin des Dames. Violent explosions occurred in the moat at Fort Alaimai.son, but none were hurt. The Freuch advanced and reached Pinon and Van dess on by the evening. The pursuit continued during the night, and on Sunday morning we reached the old front on the Ailette General Mangin’s left wing advanced beyond the old line and reached Grandeourt, threatening the Anizy-La Chateau Laon front on the west as well ns the south.
