A remarkable High Court judgment has been given affecting .Justice Higgins awarded in the ease of Waterside Workers Federation against a Sydney linn. Tor ‘alleged .breach of award, wherein the Court and constitution of Conciliation and •Arbitration was not beyond Hie powers of Parliament regarding arbitral provisions, but was in regard to enforcing the provisions. The award was not invalid owing t 0 the appointment of the President for seven years but the. award was not enforeihle by the said court.
DEFENCE ACT
MELBOURNE, Sept. 28
The Senate proposes to amend the Defence Act for bringing soldiers on active service in conformity with civil law respecting the commission of the capital offence of murder.
SEAMEN’S PAY
(Received This Day. at 9.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Mil Poynton announces, that seamen engaged in vessels registered in the Commonwealth, requisitioned for service to 25 per cent on their monthly pay and will be retrospective from September first.
