FROM GENERAL MAURICE.

ON SERBIAN SITUATION

fAUSTRALIAN it ,-N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.?

(Received This Day at 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 27. General Maurice writes. —Now the French have occupied Prilep, and the Serbians have captured Popadiya mountains, which are amongst the main heights of Babuna Range, and control Voles, the First Bulgarian Army under Jesof can only retire by one road, to Kritchevo which is completely separated from the rest of the Bulgarians by Karndwhsc imountains. The Bulgarians can only retire if the centre group, which is retiring in disorder before the Serbians, manages to check the. advance in Vardar Valley and covers TJskub. - ~ The Serbians are already considerably nearer Uskub than General Jesof’s Yrmv. If the Serbians got there first, the army will he cut off altogether from the railway, and will have to find its nav through the mountains as best it may, without tho prospect of being supplied with food and munitions. _ We may he certain that the enemy is doing everything to rush up troops under cover of Uskub, which is pregnant with possibilities. The Serbians are able to fight well on nil ions which means starvation to the British, but they must have ammunition . , Wo must remember they are already a long wav from their railway.
