WESTLAND HOSPITALS AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The' Board met on Tuesday at 7.30 1 p.m. Present: Alessrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman) G. H. Blank, L. Morel, G. Davidson, J. Cameron, J. A. Murdoch, H. Williams and F. Roberts. The minutes were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. IN WARD CORRESPONDENCE A discussion took place over the question of the liability of the various Hoards to each other for the maintenance of patients from other districts, which the Minister of Hospitals has now, according to the Act, to adjust as between the parties, after the accounts are rendered. On the motion of Mr Murdoch seconded by Air Williams it was resolved that the Alinister he asked wlmt course of action lie proposed to take in connection with the collection of these accounts when they had had been adjusted. From Alinister of Defence asking Board to provide accommodation for a masseuse, the Department to pay his wages.—Received. From same, in reference to subsidy for new wing, stating General Henderson advised the number sent to AVestlasd hospital would not lie greater than at present ; the return of Dr. Doctor had been applied for and he would advise board of the result- —Received. From Police Department reporting on condition of an aged Chinaman at Blue Spur.—Received. From M. Patrick, Tatare, stating further attention would he given to matter of obtaining a house to use for district nurse.—Received. From Canterbury Board slating no space was available for erection of female shelter and notifying removal of Westland resident to Coronation Hospital for treatment. —Received. From Dr. Blackniore .stutinjj; there were no vacancies for females at Cashmere sanatorium.—Receievd, already attended to. From Alinister of Public Health advising on provision made for admission of a patient to Otaki sanatorium. —Received. From South Canterbury Board offering a four wheeled ambulance for sale. —Received. From Mrs Soddon acknowledging with thanks the Board’s message of sy m pa thy.—Rece i ved. From Grey Board notifying admission of three patients from Westland at Grey hospital.—Received. From Secretary Otira Committee enclosing £33 Bs. proceeds of ball and tunnel workers contributions and referring to matter of appointment of secretary.—Received. From A. Dinnie, Public Works Department, Otira notifying payment of £lO 10s Od by tunnel employees.—Received. REPORTS. From Finance Committee recommending payment of accounts totalling £491 8s Bd.—Received and adopted. From Treasurer, reporting receipts £3J2 ISft lid; payments £707 5s 3d. debit balance; £435 2s Id.—Received. From Surgeon Superintendent Westland Hospital reporting in hospital on 31st July 37. Admitted during August 9 mail's, 9 females. Total treated 3(5 males 19 females —55. Discharged cured, 9 males, 8 females; relieved 4 males, 1 female; died 2 males, 1 female Total discharged 25. In hospital for over two months; 18 males. 3 females —2l.—Received. From House Committee, Westland Hospital recommending that a new high pressure boiler and the necessary reticulation to give an adequate hot water supply be installed at once; that there was some sickness among members of the staff and the matron had been authorised to obtain necessary assistance. That the matron desired to thank Mcsdames Henderson and Lloyd for gifts of magazines, Mrs Wood and Air. W. Howe for whitebait and a lady for assistance sewing for several days.— Received and adopted. Consideration of the request of the Ku mara deputation was further deferred. The Board rose at. 8.30 p.m.
