GRAND VIZIER ON SITUATION

AMSTERDAM, Sept

The Turkish Grand Vizier, addressing the Tufco-German League at Constantinople, declared that all the rulers and peoples of Central Powers, including "that august friend of humanity and civilisation, the Kaiser,” wanted peace. He claimed that the Central Powers were lighting for small nations and for the world’s liberty, and he appealed for fortitude in the face of temporary military failures.

TURKISH PRISON CAMPS. LONDON, Sept. 24. In consequence of British representations, the Netherlands Minister at Constantinople is sending inspectors to the Turkish prison ramps to investigate complaints as to non-delivery of parcels. The inspectors are taking 3000 parcels, which hitherto had been detained at Constantinople by the Red Crescent. PRESENT TO THE NATION. LONDON, Sept. 24. The owners have presented to the nation “Stoselienge,” (tbe ancient Drudie ruins on Salisbury Plain.) SPAIN AND GERMANY. PARIS. Sept. 24. It is understood that Spain is- considering Germany’s offer to give Spain seven German vessels interned in Spain as compensation for sinkings, and also not to sink any more Spanish vessels on condition that they engage only in purely Spanish trade.

A DAGGER. CHARGE

(Received This' Day at 9.50. a.m.) WASHINGTON, Sep. 25. An official despatch from Rome says the Czeeho-Slovaks troops fighting as a unit for- the first time on the --aln.i, front, defeated German-Magyar troops in the fiercest of battles, which ended with a dagger charge. Premier Orlando congratulated the Czeeho-Slovak National Council on tho success.
