the shipping shortage. WELLINGTON, September 24. Referring, to Mr Hoover. American Food Controller’s statement regarding shipping, Hon. Mr Guthrie said to-day lie had received no advice of this intention of the imperial authorities to divert any of the ships already prom-, ised to New Zealand elswhere. He arrangement made so far extend only to the end of this year, but nothing has happenord to lead the Government to suppose there will he no ships alter that time. Contrariwise, the indica tions have been that there will then be a reasonable amount of shipping available for New Zealand trade.
