DAIRY STOCK PRICKS

A teat nre ol interest to dairy farmers on the Const during' the past few weeks has been the excellent prices prevailing for good sound milk cows. Recent sales haie indicated the value practical farmers ate prepared to go for the grade or better class milking strains. ing. The top price of £2) T2/V» for a four year old Jersey Shorthorn cow purchased by Mr W ■ Smile is probably a Coast record. Excellent prices prevailed for the whole line and in cise of young cows the demand was keen.

The following prices were recorded: One cow at £2O I'2/d, °ne at .Lib //<•, two at £lB, two at £l7 7/6, two at £ls 12/6, throe at £l6 7/6, one at £ls 10/, two at £11; 10/, one at £ls, one at £l4 2/6, one at £l4 5/, two at £l4 3/6, the line averaging £ 6 1/. One springing heibr at, £l2 2/6, one at £l2 5/, two aged cows at £(] 15/, one aged cow at £lO 17/6, one fat cow at £l4 5/, two fat heifers at £8 13/6. two suckers at £7 10/ each, one bull at. £'S. The sale was conducted by Messrs Jeffries 4’ Co.

On Wednesday last Messrs Jeffries & Co hold their annual spring sale when a, full yarding of over 400 head of stock came forward. There was a representative attendance ol: buyers and with the exception of a pen of five fat steers and of a line of 13 calves everything was quitted at excellent, prices. Calves —Six to eight months calves £3 to £3 13/; ten months to yearlings (steers) £4 10/ to £4 1.7/; heifers £2 13/ to £3 2/; eighteen months steers and heifers £5 6/ to £7 0/; twenty months steers £7 10/ to £8 13/6-; twenty months heifers £7 17/6 to £8 5/; eighteen months steers at £7 1 7/0. £8 2/ and £S 17/6; eighteen months heifers £6 10/ to £7 10/6; two year steers £8 15/, £0 2/6, £0 17/and £9 5/; two year heifers £7 17/6, £8 and £8 3/; two and a half to three year steers £B, £0 2/6, £0 15/, £9 17/, £lO 9/6, £lO 15/ and £ll 17/6. Fat cows at, £lO, £ll 2/6, £l2 15/ and £l3 5/; S.Tf. bull at £B. Aline of 25 mixed 18 months to 30 months steers and heifers at £8 8/.
