A shooting sensation occurred in Maitland Street this afternoon, when George Moody, a tobacconist was shot in the shoulder necessitating his removal to a private hospital. The alleg ed shooting . was done by his wife, from whom he had been living apart for some time. The bullet has been extracted and-.no serious result is expected. Mrs. Moody has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder . It appears that Mrs Moody attempted to gain ' admission to the house but was refused, whereupon she drew a revolver and tired at her husband.
THE SHOOTING CASE. DUNEDIN, This Day. At the result of the shooting affair in Maitland street yesterday, Mary Jane Moody was charged in the police court to-day with attempting to murder Benjamin William James Moody. On the application of the police a remand was granted till to-morrow week. Bail was’not asked for. In regard to the injured man, it is understood ah artery was severed and his arm is considerably swollen, but it is impossible, to say yet how serious the wound may prove.
FOUND DEAD. DUNEDIN, September 9. Alexander Jeffrey, gardner, 153 years of age was found dead at Normandy to-day with a cord round his neck. FAILURE- TO PARADE. CHRISTCHURCH, This' Day Noel Goldsbury, found guilty at a Court-martial last week of failing to parade for medical inspection lias been sentenced to 11 months hard labour. RAILWAY WORKERS PROTEST. DUNEDIN, This Day. A meeting of Hillside workshops employees to-day passed a resolution protesting strongly against tlie dismissal of a fitter, who was ordered to transfer to Greymouth, but did not do so, as he considered it impossible to move or leave his invalid wife. The meeting demands the reinstatement of the member concerned. It was stated at the meeting that representations had been made to the Department without success.
