Our advanced detachments are in frequent encounters' with the German rearguard, and are taking prisoners, and inflicting numerous casualties. The stocks of coal, road metal, and quantities of other war material which have fallen into our possession prove that it was the enemy’s intention to remain in oeupation of the Soiumo battlefield during the winter months, and that the hurried nature of his retreat has been forced upon him. AA'e have captured, northwards of Havrincourt, a strong point called “The Spoil Heap.” It is on the west bank of the Canal Du Nord. Opposite Ilerniies, we there took a number of prisoners and machine-guns.
