ROSS LIME WOSKS.
On Saturday the Directors of the AYest Coast Farmers’ Co-operative Lime Producing Cov., held a nieetinng and traiiaeted "business, Messrs J. D. Lynch (Chairman), J. Fitzgerald. J. M’lnlosh, and C. Evans being present. Mr A. H. AA 7 heeler was unable to attend through illness. Air T. E, Coates, who has acted as secretary since the incorporation of the Company, asked to be relieved now the object which lie desired is being fulfilled viz., cheap agricultural lime for the Fanners’. Co-operative. Mr Coates’s resignation was accepted upon the understanding that he would accept a seat upon the Directorate. Afr Coates accepted the position conditionally that the shareholders at the annual meeting wished him to do
A report was received from Ihe managed (Mr Upjohn) that everything is going well at tlie kilns, the only trouble being tliat farmers are not sending down sacks quickly enough to fulfil their orders.
It was decided that all lime should be slaked and bagged, as the attempt to send out lime in close condition lias so far not met with satisfaction to fanners.
It .was resolved that Mr C. IT. Rose be appointed secretary and that further applications for shares be 1 received in order to provide a crushing plant- for unburnt lime, also to provide greater facilities for delivery. It was resolved that as shareholders’ orders to hand are sufficient for the ■season’s output, 'that preference be given to shareholders’ demands, ami that any farmer requiring lime may obtain same on taking up a bolding in the co-operative concern. It was elicited that the cost of production is exceeding the maximum price allowed by tlie Government for free railage to bona fide farmers, viz., 30s. per ton. but the Directors decided to supply at that rate on a cash.with order basis farmers supply sacks. Ou the other hand arrangements are being made to cheapen the cost of production by using a full proportion of cok e instead of coal. This and other-econom-ies should enable the company to supply requirements and give the shareholders their 6 per cent dividend upon the invested capital. It was decided that merchants and others than lyona fide farmers would have to pay railage and provide bags. It was decided that all orders should be sent to the Secretary in Grevmouth who in turn will arrange for railway trucks.
